Week 8: Cecil

We're told there is a rigorous process behind naming businesses.

"Don't pick a name that could limit you as the business grows" or "avoid hard to spell names."

As you've probably gathered from our weekly updates, our team rarely overlooks the importance of process. However, when it came to naming this business, we decided to follow our intuition instead.

After 12 months of dreaming, 8 weeks of hard work, 50+ interviews, 20 concepts, 9 sprints, 3 major pivots and 2 customer journey maps, it is our pleasure to introduce you to: Cecil.

Why Cecil?

As a team, we value the importance of the inventor's mindset. We were quickly drawn, therefore, to naming the business after Hubert 'Cecil' Booth - an English engineer best known today for having invented one of the first powered vacuum cleaners.

Like most inventors, Booth challenged the status quo. At the top of the 20th century, cutting-edge floor-cleaning technology involved blowing air to push debris away. Booth, however, was intrigued by the inverse idea - cleaning by suction:

"...if the system could be reversed, and a filter inserted between the suction apparatus and the outside air, the real solution of the hygienic removal of dust would be obtained."

In an attempt to avoid greenwashing themes that are commonplace in climate related industries, we landed on this catchy name that playfully aligns with our mission to help anyone remove green house gases from the sky.

We hope you like it as much as we do!
